I don’t know why so called fans are upset with the season finale. My guess is that Sam will have his story arc dealing with the demons and trying to reopen purgatory. And Dean and Cas will try surviving the monsters and all of them will reunite mid season. How can people really freak out thinking the brothers are seperated for the rest of the show/season 8/eternity/whatever?
